Do not fret when evil men succeed

Prayer when overwhelmed

My heart-felt mission is to help Christians understand that, far from being opposed to their faith, science honours God and is nothing to be scared of. I’m driven partly by the belief that truth matters, but also because the opposite view makes God smaller...

Scientists use the gifts God gave them to expand humanity’s knowledge. In doing so, those with faith are obeying the command to love God with all their minds, and even those without faith sometimes start to see our awesome creator in a different way through their work.

Having said all this, I feel impelled to talk about something other than science and faith this month – something that will be worrying most of us…

… Truth matters fundamentally in politics and leadership

At this point in history, international figures are blatantly promoting lies, malice and greed, even to the extent of disregarding the law and international treaties. The message is ‘might is right’ and what breaks my heart, is that these same individuals publicly profess a Christian faith and are being endorsed by parts of the church.

Christ preached humility, compassion, love, acceptance of others, ‘blessed are the poor’, ‘blessed are the meek’ – The message and life of Christ is the antithesis of what these leaders are promoting yet they claim to stand for ‘Christian values’!

What an enormous stumbling block.

Equally depressing is the seemingly limitless army of people in authority who either stand by and do nothing or proactively endorse what is being said and done.

Honestly, on a human level, the situation feels overwhelming and hopeless. And then we finally remember who our God is… This is Psalm 37 v 7-8 (NIV).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

Don’t give up hope - Keep praying. God will make all things right.

After becoming a Christian as a child and training as a Chemist at university, Liz has spent a successful and happy career in the analytical instrument industry specialising in techniques for measuring toxic gases and bad smells.

She is a firm believer that science and faith both honour our creator God and is enthusiastic to help Christians without a science background see that there is nothing to fear from modern science.

Published in 2023, Liz’s first book, God’s Cosmic Cookbook, is written for 8-13 year olds. With gentle humour throughout, it presents God the chef talking young readers through how to make their own universe at home step by step - from the Big Bang to people!
