God’s Cosmic Cookbook at Lee Abbey
Many of you may already know Lee Abbey – the wonderful Christian Holiday and Retreat Centre near Lynton in North Devon – but it was great to be able to spend a week there earlier this month, free to immerse myself in science, faith and the wonders of God’s creation.
This year’s course was run by Professors John Bryant (Genetics) of Exeter and Graham Swinerd (Astrophysics) of Southampton. Together they wrote a very accessible science & faith book for adults covering the history of the universe – ‘From the Big Bang to Biology: where is God?’ I’d strongly recommend it.
I was also honoured that John and Graham encouraged me, once again, to introduce God’s Cosmic Cookbook during the week and the response was fantastic. Many of those on the course instantly recognised the gap between children’s Bible stories and science textbooks and the importance of addressing it. God’s Cosmic Cookbook fills that gap.
It is great news that nowadays GCC and other books like it are becoming available for us to help young people understand how science and faith sit comfortably together; each pointing us to our awesome creator in their own ways.
